Intercultural Week

One of the most special things about our school is how diverse it is. In our class alone, we celebrate 9 different cultures! Throughout intercultural week, every class gets to research 2/3 different countries and make projects on them. Then, at the end of the week all of our hard work will be displayed in the Halla for everyone to see! The countries we did our projects on were Nigeria, Pakistan and Poland. Lucky for us, we had some experts on these countries in our class who helped us by giving us some extra information! We had great fun! We dressed up, sampled foods from different countries, learned new songs and listened to different types of music!

Ceolchoirm na Nollaig

Lights, camera, ACTION! We're all ready to hit the stage to preform our Christmas play this year. It's called Mr. Partridges Amazing Preforming Troupe! We've put so much effort into practicing over the last few weeks. Our voices are rested and ready to sing beautifully on the stage! We hope to impress all of the other students, teachers and our families! We are also so lucky in 4th and 5th class, as our parents came in to help us make our costumes. They look amazing. Thank you all so much! We really appreciate all of your help making the costumes, and also helping us get them on and off safely on the day of the play.

Science Week

We love Science in Muinteoir Claire's Class. This year we learned about different scientists, such as Copernicus, Eienstein, Marie Curie, and Issac Neuton. We also carried out some experiments! We were lucky that we had been practicing procedural writing during the week, so we were able to write out our experiments perfectly!

The first experiment we did was how to make a lava lamp. We figured out that water and oil don't mix, and by adding an alka seltzer tablet to the mix, we created a lava lamp! We also added some blue food colouring so that we were able to see this clearly.

Next, we wanted to prove that water travels up the stem in plants, to get to the petals of the flowers. To prove this, we got some beautiful white flowers and placed them in various food colourings. We left them for a few days and you will see the results in the pictures!

Science of sound

As part of our Science week experiments and activities, Dr Naoimi came into us to teach us about sound! We learned that sound travels in vibrations. You can also change the tempo and frequency of sound. We did a really cool experiment, where we put some glue on a paper plate and then put the paper plate on a big speaker. Ella and Daniel got to change the volume of the speaker and frequency of sound also. The lower the volume, the less vibrations, the higher the volume the stronger the vibrations! When the vibrations were at their most, it looked like figures were dancing in the glue. We really enjoyed this! We took pictures to show You!

Bowling!

We are very lucky children in 4th/5th class. On Friday, the 13th of November, we were all brought on a bus with Muinteoir Aoife's class to city limits where we got to go bowling! We had a great time.

Halloween fun!

We all made a huge effort to dress up for Halloween this year in 4th and 5th class. Some people went for some scary costumes such as Steven, who was really spooky! And others decided to go with a more baby-ish option... Like Muinteoir Claire! We had great fun looking at all the different classes in the halla, and our walk came second over all! We were so happy!! We also got to make vampires mouths. They were so yummy! If you would like the recipe, let us know!

Hurling

The children enjoyed playing hurling on Thursday in preparation for the All Ireland Final on Sunday. We hadn't lost any skills over the summer.
